Anaemia is a condition where there is a deficiency of erythrocytes or RBC (Red Blood Cells) in the blood. RBC or erythrocytes are mature blood cells that contain haemoglobin to carry oxygen to the bodily tissues. Basically, in this condition there is a reduction in the level of haemoglobin (Hb) in the blood. Haemoglobin is a hemoprotein composed of globin and heme that gives red blood cells their characteristic colour; function primarily to transport oxygen from the lungs to the body tissues.
